Amendments of Civil Records
CRIM is mandated by the CRIM Act to correct any inaccurate, incorrect, or incomplete data registered in the Central Register or cancel any entry in the Central Register if it contains such data. Thus, CRIM offers Amendments to Civil Records. The following data in Civil Records can be amended.
- Name Change/First Name
- Family Name or Surname
- Other or custom name
- Date of Birth
- Residency (Temporary Address)
- Occupation – can be updated at any time you visit CRIM Registration Centre
Steps to Amend a Civil Record
Citizen or Resident must come to a CRIM Headquarters or a Provincial CRIM Registration Centre.
Citizen or Resident must provide evidence needed to amend their records (Different for each amendment).
Citizen or Resident must complete the Civil Record Amendment Form.
The application and evidence are reviewed.
Decision is made. If the application is rejected there is an appeal. If the application is accepted the Registrar completes the Amendment Process.
Citizen or Resident is provided with proof of the amendment, new ID, certificate, and a confirmation letter for bank. Remember: All old ID card and Birth Certificates are now void and not usable.
