National ID Cards and E-ID
CRIM has been issuing standard National ID Cards since 2017 under the National ID Policy to address the issue of good governance. It is estimated that 100% percent of the population have National ID Cards. Every Vanuatu ID comes with a unique ID number and a QR code. This QR code can be used to scan and obtain the required information about the citizen. It can be used to make long queues move faster by allowing for the quicker identification of individuals, access to food being distributed in disaster relief, voting queues at polling stations, or being able to account for the citizens traveling on ships or planes. Each age category is given a different color. 0-5 years is yellow, 6-17 years is blue, 19-59 years is green and 60+ is red.
Steps to Register
Citizen or Resident must go to a CRIM Registration Centre outfitted with the CRIM Biometric Station
Citizen or Resident must complete the Vanuatu ID Cards and E-ID Form
Registrar registers the Vanuatu ID Card and E-ID information into RV5
Registrar takes a picture of the Citizen or Resident
Citizen or Resident Pay any fee and is provided with their Vanuatu ID Card and/or E-ID

CRIM Standard Photo of the person being registered. If the child is under two, they can be accompanied by their parents in the picture.
E-ID
As we move to the future, we are giving citizens access to their ID cards by creating an E-ID. In the VanuatuID app, citizens can provide any institution inquiring about their identity with an up-to-date version of their ID on their phone. This format incorporates the QR Code and allows those citizens with a smartphone to never be without their ID. This app is in the Development phase and will be launched later this year.
